We understand the struggles, so we've gathered some of our favourite empowering celebs that have gone clean and green, to help inspire you on your natural journey, whatever that may entail!
Jessica Alba: The Honest Company
You may know Jessica Alba from her expansive filmography, but did you know she's also an incredible business women, who co-founded a company that provides ethical and safe solutions for your home and family?
Alba started Honest because she saw a gap in the market, knowing that people want better, safer products to use around their family. They're a wellness brand with values rooted in consciousness, community, transparency and design.
Honest understands that people want eco-products that don't break the bank, are transparent, and have an alternative design to the usual hippie styles that are associated with healthy eco living. To say she recognised a gap in the market seems an understatement!
Honest now sells 135 products, spanning toiletries to nappies, and are sold online and in 4,400 stores. She also donates products to families in need. And in a more inspiring note, she's recently posted photos and blogs of her natural self, with her newest addition to her family, showing a raw and beautiful side to motherhood. What doesn't she do!
Jamie Lee Curtis: Natural Hair
Did you know Jamie Lee Curtis stopped colouring her hair over seven years ago? Apparently Curtis has planned on letting her grey take over long before she did, but a company she was spokesperson for stopped her from doing so. Rough right?
From the age of 52, the actress started ignoring Hollywood’s demand for eternal youth and allowed her true beauty to shine! Curtis said the epiphany came when she was sitting in a hair salon starring at herself in the unflattering lighting, with a cape around her neck and tinfoil on her head.
She thought "what the eff am I doing putting a chemical on my head that burns? My short hair keeps growing in, and I have to cut it and touch it up all the time. This is not the place for me."
The conversation about embracing your ageing has become a hot topic of late, and this is a bandwagon we are willing to jump on. What's so bad about letting go of all the nasties, and letting those silver highlights shine?
Alicia Keys: Make-up Free
Alicia Keys "shocked" the world when she stepped out onto the red carpet over a year ago at the MTV music awards without a drop of make up on her glowing face. What made her make this bold decision? It's quite simple really -- she was over trying to be perfect and covering herself up.
"Before I started my new album, I wrote a list of all the things that I was sick of. And one was how much women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect."
"One of the many things I was tired of was the constant judgment of women. The constant stereotyping through every medium that makes us feel like being a normal size is not normal, and heaven forbid if you're plus-size. Or the constant message that being sexy means being naked."
"I was really starting to feel like that — that, as I am, I was not good enough for the world to see. This started manifesting on many levels, and it was not healthy."
Keys decided it was time to start loving herself for who she is, and we think she looks incredible! Maybe we all need to take a page from her book.
"I hope to God it's a revolution, 'cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing," -- we feel you Alicia!
