The '80s are famous and infamous for a lot of things — but the sheer fabulousness (or craziness) of the hairstyles are the stand out for us. A few decades later, we think it's time to take a moment and reflect on some of the most iconic and boundary pushing hairstyles of the century.
Feathered Like Farrah
Parted down the middle with your fringe and side layers curled back in giant bouncy barrel curls. Then you freeze them in place with hair spray, Farrah Fawcett made this look iconic. And everyone from your best friend to your third-grade English teacher was wearing it.
Crimping your style
This style ran well into the 90's. Hair crimping was a long, tedious procedure where we would take a crimping iron (resembling and mixture of a hair straightener and a George Foreman grill) to create zigzag patterns in our hair. Love it or hate it, crimping was a big one!
Scrunchies galore
If in doubt, you put a bow on it. Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell, was the hair-idol of many young 80's kids the world over. She knew how to tease it, tie it back, and top it off with a cute bow for a playful, junior-high take on Cyndi Lauper outrageousness.
Curls, curls, curls
You'd be lying if you denied spending hours singing "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" into your hairbrush. We also spent hours trying to recreate her epic spirals, with perms, rollers, benders and gel. Whitney proved that girlish cuteness could still be cool.
The Mullet
This style was better suited to the 80's man, yet it still took off for women. Both straight and permed mullets were everywhere you looked -- there was no escaping it! We don't blame you if you've since destroyed all the photos showing your 80s mullet. Don't show the kids! Or maybe you should, it could be fun.
The saving grace
If you lived through the 80's, you know what you put your hair through. We could be here to save the day. Beautiful, strong hair, minus the hairspray.
